IFLA EUROPE Agricultural Landscape WG Webinar ‘Symbiotic Relationship between the Urban and the Rural’, 21 September 2022, 13h CET

Part of the IFLA World series of regional events entitled ‘On the Pursuit for Territorial Justice and Food Security” organised by IFLA World Working Group on Agriculture and Landscapes.

By definition sustainable food production should secure - clean water, clean air, microbial healthy soils, nature recovery and build resilience for the future. Climate change, the extinction of wildlife, security of food and energy, alongside the health and wellbeing of everyone, imposes a new imperative to the management of land and natural resources. Should we look at the way rural land is managed with different eyes?

Landscape Architects are well positioned to deliver the new agenda by providing the multi-functional rural outcomes to benefit both the town and countryside. We combine our science and art-based training to place making. By creative land management, design and limiting the expansion of urban development across fertile land, we can regain
the balanced relationship between cities and the countryside.
