Discussion on 'Can better regulation unlock Europe's economic potential?'

With Wolfgang Hiller, Zach Meyers, Lotta Nymann-Lindegren, Jörgen Warborn and Michael Wimmer. Chair: Sander Tordoir, Senior Economist, Centre for European Reform.

The EU has made significant progress in ensuring its law-making is rigorous and evidence-based in recent years. Yet many stakeholders remain worried that the process of EU law-making is still opaque, unpredictable and results in too many unnecessary costs on businesses. And not all EU institutions have displayed the same commitment to better law-making. As policy-makers fret about the EU's international competitiveness, this panel will explore how well the EU has met its commitments to better regulation in recent years. How can long-standing problems with the EU's law-making processes be improved? Can better regulation help improve the EU's economic performance?
