Understanding the role of ICT in the integration of Immigrant and Ethnic Minorities

In a nutshell: The European Commission is pleased to announce the organisation of a workshop on Understanding the role of ICT in the integration of Immigrant and Ethnic Minorities (IEM), on November 23rd, 2010, in Brussels that will encourage the sharing of good practices and research studies in the area of ICT-enabled or supported IEM participation in lifelong learning, improved employability and social integration.Topics:The topics to be covered by the ICT-enabled initiatives and research studies at the workshop include:o ICT-enabled participation of IEM to Lifelong learning o ICT-enhanced employability of IEM, including entrepreneurshipo ICT-enabled social integration of IEMEach topic will be addressed considering these aspects:o Access to IEM and identification of their needs o Empowerment of IEM through ICTo Impact measurement: aspects to consider and appropriate methodologies/tools (i.e. what is measured and how).The overall objective of this workshop is to exchange among practitioners and field researchers current initiatives and research carried out in the field of ICT and IEM in Europe.Call for presentations:Those interested in speaking should register to the workshop and submit an original and concise proposal, which should be based on one or more real cases, by November 5th, 2010. Potential speakers are encouraged to submit the case(s) of their presentation to the ePractice case repository if this has not been done yet.Important deadlines:• Submission of draft abstracts/presentations by November 5, 2010• Speaker confirmation by November 10, 2010 • Submission of final presentations by November 17, 2010 (by 6:00 p.m. CET)• Workshop date: November 23, 2010 • Publication of workshop proceedings: January 2011Draft Agenda:The workshop agenda will be made available through the dedicated announcements on ePractice and dispatched via email to all the registered attendees, once contributions by prospective speakers have been received, selected and finalised.Venue:The workshop session will take place in Rue de Champs de Mars, 21 CDMA SDR2, Brussels 1050.
