Energy and Transport DiversitySustainable Policies, Priorities and Needs

Europeans need a secure supply of affordable energy to maintain their quality of life. Negative effects of fossil fuel use must be reduced.  With energy supply in Central and Eastern Europe largely based on CO2 intensive fuels, clear low carbon alternatives urgently need to be identified.Transport is a major source of employment and income for Europe. Optimal combinations of transport methods along with technological innovation to reduce pollution and promote more energy-efficient transport are fundamental elements for a more sustainable, safe and efficient network. It is therefore crucial to complete the missing links and remove the bottlenecks in our transport infrastructure. It is essential for energy and transport policy makers to address major challenges facing us today. The diverse energy generators and transport modes must be streamlined into a single system.
