The level of naturally occurring contaminants, including nitrates, in certain foods has potential implications for the health of the consumer. EU legislation has set maximum levels for nitrates in lettuce and spinach for some time. However, this legislation has recently changed. Important changes include an increase in maximum levels for fresh spinach and fresh lettuce, and the inclusion of maximum levels for rocket (rucola). This is of particular importance to the UK fresh produce industry. This event will consider the potential effects of this change in legislation on the food industry and provide a vital update on the latest technical developments in this area. The emphasis will be on meeting the legal requirements. This seminar has been awarded 4 BASIS CPD points.
