English the Saint James way

Final conference of the European project English the Saint James Way, funded by Leonardo programme

The conference concludes the activities  of a project started in 2009 and aimed at teaching English to tourist operators working along the various routes to the Shrine of St.James at Compostela. The partners in the project, led by the Spanish partner Conexia S.Coop, worked to produce innovative forms of training based on ICT, as well as making use of best practices in the field of language learning. They developed an English course tailored on the specific needs of staff working in tourism along the Routes to Compostela. The course, divided in 10 units and based on conversations and typical situations encountered  by tourist operators, is constantly available by accessing the on-line platform using computer, notebook and smartphone. The routes to Compostela were chosen as a testing ground for the project because they are among the world’s most popular and famous tourist routes, and at the same they represent an historical and significant meeting point for beliefs, cultures and languages in Europe. The pilgrimage routes, dating from the Middle Ages, start in Portugal, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Benelux nations, Germany and Northern Europe. Funded by Leonardo da Vinci Programme – Multilateral Projects “Transfer of Innovation”, the project involved local authorities, foundations and companies engaged in the promotion of cross-cultural tools for communication. The project involves seven partners from Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Belgium:
