Inside Movie Story-telling

Why film works - the structure and grammar of film as a communications medium.

Animo is hosting a short, informative presentation which will introduce the structure and 'grammar' of film, in a session that is designed to deepen the skills and understanding of any organisation that uses the visual medium to communicate its message. The art of good film-making has its essence in visual story-telling, and the 'principles' that underpin how a good story is properly and compellingly told. The session is presented by Paul Moore.  About the SpeakerPaul began his directorial career in Dublin's Abbey Theatre, also directing plays in Belfast, London and Philadelphia. In 1995, he founded Ardmore Sound, based in Ardmore Film Studios in Ireland.  Ardmore Sound's success was based on making the best talent in film and television sound post-production available to Irish and European film directors and producers. Over the last 15 years he has brought several major talents in the world of sound to Ireland including Oscar winners, supplied sound services to all the major film studios and television stations and has worked with some of the finest directors in film.  Paul has several film projects in development and is a director of Epos Films, which has just completed shooting a 12 part series on the building of the Titanic as a co-production with the De Angelis Group from Italy. A Very Short Guide to Basic Grammar for Movie Story-Telling........in 120 mins (the average duration of a movie with a coffee break!)  Introduction 1.       Story:   Beginnings, Middle and an Ending (or two, or three...) 2.       Image and Story 3.       Sound and Story 4.       Image and Sound in practice: Step-through example                                 10 Minute Break 5.       Beginnings in a movie 6.       Middle in a Movie 7.       Endings in a Movie Some things to think about                  = 120 minutes total
