EIF Dinner Debate

The market for Internet-equipped television sets is developing rapidly alongside an already sizeable offer of mobile devices and computers capable of receiving television programmes. The frontier between what used to be two different worlds – broadcast and broadband - is fading and creating new opportunities for audiovisual services and viewers, but this also raises a number of questions regarding the future viability of the regulatory framework. In early 2013, the European Commission is expected to publish a Green Paper looking into the regulatory and practical challenges raised by connected TV and media convergence. The Commission will also consider how these developments can deliver more to viewers and boost the European market for audiovisual services and their transmission. The aim of this dinner debate hosted by the European Internet Foundation is to debate and assess which regulatory and practical issues need to be addressed for connected TV to fully realise its economic and cultural potential. Experts from the broadcasting community and the electronics industry have been invited to give their insight on how to create a future proof regulatory framework for a converged media world, as well as showcase the latest projects within their organisations and engage in a lively and interactive dialogue with the audience.Welcome and introductory remarks by:Sabine Verheyen, MEP and EIF MemberSpeakers:Lorena Boix-Alonso, Head of Converging Media and Content Unit, European CommissionRomain Bausch, President and CEO of SESArnaud Brunet, Director of External Relations Europe, Sony EuropeJürgen Kleinknecht, New Media Editorial Department, ZDFExchange of views with participants
