A Comprehensive Guide to European Food Law

Leatherhead’s Brussels-based two-day Everything European course aims to provide delegates with comprehensive coverage of the principles and application of current and upcoming EU food law with indications of some national quirks. Leatherhead’s Regulatory experts will explain how to identify, keep up-to-date with and apply relevant legislation as an aid to both new product development and legality of current product ranges.  The course will provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss and comment on the long-awaited Article 13.1 health claims list and other challenging regulatory issues, such as the Food Information Regulation and the new Union lists on food additives and flavourings.  Day 1 covers an introduction to the different European institutions and how they work together to decide and create food policies, key areas of EU food law such as the general principles of food law, food safety and hygiene, crisis management, food improvement agents and novel foods.  Day 2 will focus on how to ensure the acceptability of a food product label according to current and future European rules on food labelling. The mandatory labelling requirements will be explained thoroughly including product name, ingredient listing, allergens and QUID declaration, lot and weight marking, marketing terms and organic foods. Nutrition and health claims and the proposed nutrient profiling will be discussed with practical examples.
