Meeting Europe

European Sustainable Energy Week and Lanzatech are pleased to invite you to a roundtable discussion at the Press Club in Brussels on Tuesday, 25 June from 9:00-11:00 am: Meeting Europe

The European Union has positioned itself as a global leader the fight against climate change and the champion of sustainable energy. In order to reach its 2020 climate and energy goals, the EU has put in place an ambitious policy framework for the decarbonisation of transport. Multiple means are considered, including renewable energy, biofuels and low-carbon fuels. The EU Renewable Energy Directive sets a 10% biofuels target for Member States to be met by 2020. Simultaneously, the EU Fuel Quality Directive requires suppliers to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of fuels by 6% by this same year. These two legal acts shape European energy markets. They do not necessarily work together as intended in the market, the first setting volume targets, while the second functions on the basis of CO 2 emissions targets. This roundtable discussion, held under the banner of European Sustainable Energy Week,  will bring together speakers from the European Commission's Directorates General for Energy and Climate, Members of the European Parliament, sustainable fuel producers (LanzaTech) and civil society (Transport & Environment) to provide a critical look at the current status of EU fuels markets and assess the way forward for EU policies. The breakfast roundtable discussion will be held at the Press Club (Rue Froissart 95) on 25 June from 9:00-11:00 amRegistration through EUSEW website or via link provided in the EU Agenda 'Registration' tab.
