EIF Dinner Debate

On 21 January EIF will offer a special opportunity to listen to the presentation of three parallel foresight projects run by the European Commission, ESPAS and EIF:•  Digital Futures is a foresight project launched by DG CONNECT to prepare for reflections on ICT policies beyond 2020. The project tapped into the collective wisdom and aspirations of stakeholders to co-create long term visions (on a time horizon 2040-50) and fresh ideas for policies that can inspire the future strategic choices of DG CONNECT and the European Commission. Digital Futures drew inspiration from the long term advances at the intersection between ICT and society, economy, environment, politics, humanities and other key enabling technologies and sciences. The project has been supported by Futurium, an online platform combining the informal character of social networks with the methodological approach of foresights to engage stakeholders in the co-creation of the futures that they want.•   ESPAS Global Trends Report is the ongoing work of ESPAS, the European Strategy and Policy Analysis System, to identify trends and highlight the way in which digital technologies are driving and shaping them. To assist ESPAS in this task, three inter-institutional working groups have been established and three in-depth studies recently completed by independent researchers. These studies cover current trends in the international economy, changes arising from the emergence of a global society and the shifts in international governance and power. The reports that arise from this process will contribute to the preparation of the ESPAS Global Trends Report 2014.•   The Digital World in 2030 Report: What Place for Europe? is the ongoing project of the EIF, which will be released on 18 March 2014, in time for next year’s European Parliament elections and a new Commission. It will be looking at the technology, economic, and socio-political dimensions of the Digital World, and will also focus on what is Europe’s place in the Digital World and what policy makers should be aware of.PROGRAMME:Welcome and introduction:James Elles, MEP and EIF Co-FounderSpeakers‘Digital Futures’ by European Commission – presented by Franco Accordino, Head of taskforce ‘Digital Futures’, DG CONNECT‘The World in 2030’ by European Strategy and Policy Analysis System – presented by Franck Debié, Chair of Inter-institutional Working Group 2 on the future of European Society, ESPAS‘Digital World in 2030: What place for Europe?’ by European Internet Foundation – presented by Peter Linton, co-author and advisor to Governors, EIFExchange of views with participants
