Insign Live Demonstration, 25th September 2014  Europe gets closer to it´s citizens, celebrating cultural diversity with cutting edge technology and innovative methodology. Insign is a one year pilot project, funded by the European Commission, that aims to empower deaf and hard of hearing (HoH) citizens to communicate with the European Institutions.Using a web-based platform, deaf and hard of hearing (HoH) Europeans can experience making video, voice & real-time text calls in a language of their choice, through a sign language interpreting and/or captioning service to the preferred EU Institution.Lead by EUD (European Union of the Deaf), a consortium of six well-established organisations from four EU Members states are working on this Insign pilot project, ensuring amongst other aspects, academic research, sustainability and an operational free software. From its inception, this project has embraced open consultation with the stakeholders, (deaf, hard of hearing, sign language interpreters, service providers…) the overall end beneficiaries of this service. In this Second demonstration, on the 25thof September 2014 you will have the opportunity to witness the outcomes of the Insign consortium’s work; research results, technical improvements of the Insign platform, project sustainability, working methodology and real-time live calls.
