Please join us for the European launch of Extreme Dialogue, a unique series of films and education resources telling the stories of survivors and former extremists to help young people develop critical thinking and digital literacy skills, increase understandings of violent extremism, and challenge common myths and misconceptions. The new resources, freely available on www.extremedialogue.org in German, Hungarian and English, provide invaluable tools for teachers, youth and community workers to help them to open up vital discussions with young people.
The event will include screenings of the new Extreme Dialogue films, and a panel discussion on the role of education in building resilience to radicalisation. The panel will include both policy experts and those whose lives have been directly impacted by extremism, including Billy McCurrie, a survivor of extremism and a former member of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) in Northern Ireland.
The Institute for Strategic Dialogue, in partnership with Duckrabbit, The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, West London Initiative (UK), Political Capital (Hungary) and Cultures Interactive (Germany), have created films and resources focusing on contemporary European extremism, with stories including Jimmy, a Syrian refugee in Germany, to Szabolcs, whose community in Hungary has been divided by far right nationalism. These new resources were released in the UK in July and are due to launch in Hungary and Germany later this month. The project is co-funded by the Prevention of and Fight against Crime Programme of the European Union.
Please RSVP via email to [email protected] to secure your place at the event. Please also share this invitation with colleagues who might be interested in attending.
