Boosting the European business sector: It starts with cycling

One EU project got half a million people out of their cars: Find out how smart choices can change Europe’s commuting habits.

The European Cyclists’ Federation together with the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU and the European Bike2Work project invite you to explore how 500 thousand commuters were convinced to shift daily habits. Some keys to success include:

  • Light electric vehicles took over car journeys up to 20 kilometers.
  • Tax breaks and fiscal incentives got commuters on bikes and out of company cars.
  • Smart technologies and big data became a dynamic tool for successful Bike2Work campaigns.
  • From SMEs to multinationals, companies of all sizes worked with municipalities and NGOs to transform travel habits.
  • Business leaders proved that investing in smarter choices for commuting boosts both productivity and corporate reputation.
  • EU coordination reached 13 countries with completely different cycling levels.
  • A European standard for cycle-friendly employers creates a long-term structure for the future.

Come to this event to see how these lessons can be carried forward to the EU level by incorporating them to an EU Cycling Strategy. Previous partnerships with the Luxembourg, Dutch and Slovak Presidencies made great progress on topics such as infrastructure and policy. Now we are delighted to work with the Maltese Presidency to discuss commuting, technology and behaviour change. Speakers will come from multinational corporations such as Decathlon and Telekom as well as expert centers and institutions.

Find out more about the European Cycling Strategy process and who endorses it here.
