Zero carbon land freight

Zero carbon land freight

Almost two hundred countries committed to reducing greenhouse gases under the Paris Agreement. Their pledge is to limit the rise in global temperature to less than 2 degrees - and pursue efforts to keep that rise to degrees.

To achieve this, systemic changes will need to be made to our transport sector which accounts for more than 26% of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. Within road transport, heavy duty vehicles account for around a quarter of road transport greenhouse gas emissions - and trucks have not significantly improved their average fuel efficiency in the last 20 years.

How can we fully decarbonise trucks by the middle of this century? What technology and policy options would contribute the most to us achieving our climate targets? More specifically, can we electrify our trucks, power them renewably by hydrogen, or shift the freight onto rail?

Clearly, it’s time to start developing a pathway to zero emission freight - and we need Europe to lead. We invite you to take part in this discussion, a Nordic Council of Ministers event, in partnership with T&E. The event will examine pilot projects, discuss their results and engage high-level decision-makers.

Representatives from the EU, Norway and Germany, the industry (BYD Europe, Hydrogenics, Siemens), as well as researchers will speak.
