Summer Course on European Family Law

Afternoon sessions

Objective

The purpose of this course is to introduce (family) lawyers to practical aspects of European and international family law.

This course will be over five afternoons with each half-day focusing on the most relevant topics in family litigation, namely

  • Cross-border divorce
  • Parent-child relationships including parental child abduction
  • Cross-border maintenance obligations towards children
  • Property regimes of international couples
  • Family law and human rights

This course will provide you with hands-on experience on cross-border family cases and the recent jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

All relevant instruments in this field will be presented and analysed, by way of both lectures and case studies. You will benefit from daily workshops where active participation is encouraged. In the workshops, case studies will be discussed in small groups over the Internet.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at legal practitioners seeking a thorough introduction to the various instruments in EU family law and the interplay with the most relevant Hague conventions in this field.

Interactive Webinar

The online summer course will be hosted on the Zoom videoconferencing platform. The highest security settings will be applied to ensure that you can participate actively in the best-quality videoconferencing environment available.
