What is the "Negotiations in Practice" training course?
The purpose of this five-day training course is to provide you with a practical insight into the mechanisms and dynamics between and within the EU institutions. Our high level trainers will give you the necessary tools and guidance to enhance your negotiation, communication, influencing and lobbying skills.
Our course trainers, who all have first-hand experience of political negotiations at the highest level or in-depth negotiation analysis, will teach you how to become successful and strategic negotiators within the political and legal structures of the EU.
The Development Office has organised numerous editions of this course since 2004 as part of its professional training courses on EU affairs.
Which methods will be used?
After this five-day training course, you will have gained the necessary know-how and self-confidence to participate effectively and successfully in negotiation processes in an EU context.
The programme will offer you the possibility to:
Participate in several exercises, including simulation games based on real dossiers handled by the European Commission and the United Nations;
Experience the role of a negotiator in the Council of the European Union during a one-day simulation game;
Practise your communications skills;
What one of our trainers says:
"This workshop by going beyond the classroom lecture type environment: people are not only an audience but become negotiators. They learn sometimes without being conscious that they are learning – just by plunging themselves into the simulation!"
