CircLean - Industrial symbiosis as an opportunity for climate neutrality

The virtual event will launch the CircLean network as a concrete opportunity to tap into the potential of industrial symbiosis for European businesses.

The reuse of raw materials through industrial symbiosis can have economic, environmental and social benefits. Even so, the lack of evidence-based recognition of its benefits together with insufficiently motivating framework conditions hinders the uptake of IS in the EU.

The virtual event will launch the CircLean network as an opportunity to tap into the potential of industrial symbiosis for European businesses. This pilot initiative, led by DG GROW, aims to increase the availability of information about the impacts and benefits of IS in the EU.

From businesses, public authorities, industries associations and research centres discussing their reasons to join the CircLean Network, to a roundtable on the importance of industrial symbiosis for the EU Green Deal, this event will address questions such as:

  • What are the drivers/barriers to create an enabling framework for industrial symbiosis in the EU?
  • How can public authorities and business associations promote IS as a means for businesses to become more competitive and climate neutral?
  • How can technology and research support IS exchanges?
  • How can we foster exchanges and co-operation among public administrations in Europe on industrial symbiosis?
