Social (Media) Inclusion online training

Session 1: Social (media) education and digital divides (EDUnaut)

This session will provide an introduction to the objectives of the project and the basic overview of the social media and its influence. Specific emphasis will be placed on the digital divides and the usage of social media.

By the end of the session the learner should be able to:

  • Understand the usage of social media – be able to define it, recognize its influence and different types of social media

  • Understand why media literacy and social media education is important in today’s society

  • Recognize the different digital divides in the society

  • Identify the generational divide between the youth and adults (digital natives and digital immigrants)

  • Know what constitutes digital skills

  • Recognize the need to become ‘digitally wise’

  • Recognize the benefits and harmful usage of social media in migrants lives

The main topics that will be covered are the following: 

  • Social media

  • Social media education and media literacy

  • Digital divides in the society

  • Digital skills and digital wisdom

  • Primary ways migrants and refugees are using social media

 

Session 2: The digital identity (Fundacja Pro Scientia Publica)

This session will be about digital identity. Participants will get to know what exactly digital identity is, how it affects our lives, how common it is, and what is the best way to make sure that our data is properly secured. During the session, participants will be able to discuss and exchange different viewpoints. There will be many opportunities to share their opinions.

The main topics that will be covered are the following: 

  • What digital identity is

  • Where we can encounter digital identity

  • How digital identity affects our lives

  • How to protect our data

 

Session 3: Digital dangers (Itaka Training)

This session will help learners develop knowledge and understanding of the dangers of fake news and disinformation as a form of cyber warfare; individual or personal online dangers including trolling, doxxing, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, sexting, sextortion, grooming, and phishing; societal online dangers; how to take responsible action against these dangers; and how to deal with these issues and appraise information critically.

By the end of the session the learners should be able to:

  • Understand specific terms such as: fake news, disinformation, trolling cyberbullying, cyberstalking, sexting, sextortion, grooming, and phishing

  • Recognise several significant online dangers, and how they can affect both the individual as well as the whole society through political and social effects

  • Understand how online dangers can affect vulnerable groups

  • Distinguish ways to combat online dangers

  • Know how to appraise information critically

The main topics that will be covered are the following: 

  • Fake news, disinformation, cyber warfare, and their implications

  • The impact on the individual and society

  • Online dangers

  • Acting responsibly online, thinking critically, and challenging abusive behaviour

 

Session 4: Online perceptions and discrimination (Kairos Europe)

This session will help learners develop knowledge and understanding of filter bubbles and algorithms; media bias and fallacies; psychological tools used on social media; online discrimination and hate speech on social media.

By the end of the session the learners should be able to:

  • Understand how filter bubbles and algorithms work, and their impact

  • Understand different media biases, fallacies, and psychological tools which can be used on social media to influence people

  • Appreciate how groups can be discriminated against online

  • Recognise what counts as hate speech & abusive behaviour online

  • Understand how vulnerable groups such as migrants are affected by these issues

The main topics that will be covered are the following: 

  • Filter bubbles, algorithms and their impact

  • The influence of media bias, fallacies, and psychological tools online

  • Online discrimination

  • Hate speech


Session 5: Social media, cultural heritage and social inclusion (Inter Alia) 

During this session, participants will develop knowledge and understanding of the ways social media and cultural heritage can work together to build up a better and more inclusive ;

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and browse open access cultural heritage websites and aggregation platforms; 

  • Identify open licenses and their terms; 

  • Creatively reuse and remix open cultural heritage content with the use of free and open software and other digital tools;

  • Use social media storytelling techniques and open cultural heritage content to advocate for and promote social inclusion.

The main topics that will be covered are the following: 

  • The definition of open content and the 5R activities; 

  • Open licences for cultural content and their terms;

  • Examples and good practices of creative reuses and remixes of cultural heritage content;

  • Open licensing of derivative cultural content;

  • Good practices for attributing CC-licensed cultural content;

  • Social media storytelling techniques; 

  • Tips and tricks for organising advocacy campaigns on social for social inclusion with the use of open cultural heritage ;
