Fit for 55: Accelerating the Energy Transition and the Re-industrialization of Europe

The Global Annual Energy Meeting - 10th edition

Online · Friday, January 28 · 9:00-11:30 CET

Europe aims to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by mid-century. Fulfilling this ambition will involve transformations on every level, starting immediately. To that end, the European Commission proposed in 2021 the Fit for 55 legislative package: an extensive review of the Union’s climate and energy framework to enable the EU to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by ;

At the 10th edition of the Global Annual Energy Meeting, Esade’s Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (EsadeGeo) will host, together with the Representation of the European Commission in Spain and EIT InnoEnergy, a series of events to explore the social, economic and geopolitical impacts of these policies. The series, called “Fit for 55: Accelerating the Energy Transition and the Re-Industrialization of Europe”, will delve into the internal and external implications of the EU’s Fit for 55 legislative package, focusing on the opportunities and risks of the energy transition towards 2030, the EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism and its effects on countries that export to the EU, and the impact of the package for European industry.

At our first event, Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, and Teresa Ribera, Vice-President of the Spanish Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, will join us to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition for the EU and its Member States, as well as the implications of the Fit for 55 legislative package. Their keynote speeches will be followed by a panel in which four top executives – leading Air Liquide Spain, Galp, Repsol and Siemens Gamesa – will provide their views on the impact of the Fit for 55 package on the EU’s industries.
