Architects as facilitators of the energy transition

The main objective of this workshop is to discuss the role of architects as facilitators of the energy transition with the question: 'How does environmentally sustainable architecture play a key role in reducing carbon emissions from buildings and increasing awareness?'

As the relevance of energy transition grows at the EU level, environmentally sustainable architecture plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions from buildings and increasing awareness about sustainability. Innovations in the architecture field are not only about creating visually appealing but also community-centred environments for their users. Can architectural design serve as a catalyst for raising awareness about energy transition? Can new designs and tools be envisioned to create spaces according to the three New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles: beautiful, sustainable, and together?

These questions will be used as a kick-start point for discussion at the event hosted by the Municipality of Palma de Mallorca and the Architects’ Council of Europe within the EU-funded project ARV, and it will include an exhibition on the renovation solutions implemented by the Palma municipality, a site visit to the Palma Climate-Positive Circular Community (CPCC), and a networking cocktail.

Join the event to discover a wide range of replicable solutions for designing sustainable buildings, in the context of the Palma CPCC, one of the ARV six demonstration projects around the EU. Claudi Aguiló Aran will be a keynote speaker at the event, as he will illustrate the design of the IBAVI’s Social Housing PEB (Positive Energy Building), also part of the Palma CPCC. The first results of the testing of integrated photovoltaics in the GESA building will be presented by IREC (Catalonia Institute for Energy Research). Insights from the new buildings in Nou Llevant and experiences in the Urban Living Lab complete the program.
