The University can pride itself on the longest history of agriculture and forestry studies in the Czech lands. It was established in 1919 as the University of Agriculture in Brno, since 1994 the University has borne the name of the famous genetic laws discoverer Gregor Johann Mendel.The University is formed by 5 faculties: Faculty of Agronomy, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Horticulture and Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies. As an important part of its activities, the University also operates a botanical garden and arboretum.
