Special Agent Christopher Tafe is assigned to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), National Security Division, Counter-Proliferation Investigations Unit located in Northern Virginia. Agent Tafe has 18 years of experience investigating the illegal movement of munitions list items and strategic technology having sensitive civil and military applications to proscribed destinations and entities engaged in onward proliferation.

Agent Tafe is a member of the National Security Council’s Export Control Reform Task Force where he provides law enforcement insight and guidance as it relates to the Administration’s reform effort.  Agent Tafe also provides programmatic oversight for HSI’s industry outreach effort which is commonly known as Project Shield America.

Agent Tafe has served as a special agent with the legacy U.S. Customs Service and with the Department of Commerce’s, Office of Export Enforcement (OEE).  While serving with OEE, Agent Tafe was selected to serve on the Director’s executive staff where he developed U.S. policy for controlling dual-use exports and worked with the Intelligence Community, as well as other federal agencies involved with export controls.

While at HSI, Agent Tafe has served as an agency liaison to the U.S. Department of Defense, Special Operations Command where he worked on counter-proliferation matters.

Agent Tafe has led investigations that have resulted in the collection of approximately $26 million in criminal and civil fines and the guilty pleas of six companies and three individuals.  Agent Tafe is the recipient of several awards for outstanding service, including a U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal and three U.S. Attorney Awards for Investigative Excellence.

Agent Tafe graduated from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of the Secretary’s, Executive Leadership Development Program and he received his Bachelors Degree in Government and Politics from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
