After graduating from Nihon University in Tokyo, in pedagogy and linguistic in 1981, Michiko started a career in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. In 1991 she moved to Belgium and continued teaching Japanese culture and Japanese as a foreign language for the University of Liège (ULg). Since 2003 she teaches at ICHEC Business School as well as the European Commission and the Institut Libre Marie Haps in Brussels. Michiko is the vice-president of the Belgian Nihongo-Kyoshi Kai, the Belgian Association of Japanese Language Teachers. She is also actively engaged in the project "Oral Japanese Assessment Europe" OJAE.
