EA-Fitness Project Final Conference

Pan-European Accreditation in the Sport and Active Leisure Sector

The Pan-European Accreditation in the Sport and Active Leisure Sector conference features a discussion forum and a keynote presentation by Sophie Weisswange, Policy Officer, Vocational Education and Training: Quality Assurance (DG EAC European Commission). The objective of the project was to enable health and fitness sector training providers and national associations across Europe to be accredited against the European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA) Standards for occupations that include fitness instructing, group fitness instructing and personal training. The project has created the potential for a joined up approach to training and qualifications across Europe. For employers there is greater clarity and for individual instructors, their qualifications can now be recognised, allowing for mobility and change of location. Common standards enable training providers, employers and national associations to offer an enhanced product that will benefit not only their business but the sector as a whole. The partners and training providers involved in the project are based throughout Europe in the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Lithuania, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The project has been led by CYQ, the UK specialist health and fitness sector Awarding Body, with support from EHFA, the European Health and Fitness Association. This is the first pan-European exercise and fitness framework in which the EHFA Standards are aligned to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) to clearly identify the knowledge, skills and competencies required for fitness instructing occupations. The project has also supported the ongoing development of the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPs) which now has an ever increasing membership base with members from across Europe in 28 different countries. The final conference will provide an overview of the project results, including key information relating to impact and sustainability.
