Basics in Conflict Transformation

Definitions, theories and models of peace, conflict and violence

Through research around peace and conflict a number of basic models and theories have been developed that are widely applied within practical peace work. They contribute to a deeper understanding of violence and conflict. Moreover, they are at the basis of developing approaches and entry points for the peaceful transformation of conflicts within projects.This training introduces some of the most important methods and theories of leading researchers around conflict and violence and how they are applied in a practical context. The models and theories will continue to be applied in a number of other trainings within this series (e.g. analysing conflicts, third party intervention).Contents:* Definition and understanding of the terms "conflict" and violence* Systematisations, conflict transformation concepts, models and theories (Galtung, Lederach, Francis)* Current state of of the field in theory and practice* Practical examples
