SET-DEV project seminar in India

The University of Hyderabad hosts an international seminar to present the results of SET-DEV project

SET-DEV (Science, ethics and technological responsibility in developing and emerging countries) project partners organise three final seminars in the 3 countries represented by the project consortium to discuss about the project results and their implementation.Launched in 2008, the SET-DEV project has the main objective of supporting the research systems of India and Africa, interested in developing their own ethical perspectives in the context of scientific and technological research.The SET-DEV project is an initiative funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme, science in society area.The final seminars round events kick-off with the first one-day presentation at the University of Hyderabad on the 29th of March and it is followed by a second presentation in Nairobi, in Kenya and a 3rd concluding session in Brussels on the 3rd of May.The Indian seminar, titled “The Ethical Dimension of Knowing and Acting: Science and Technology in the 21st Century India”, will be opened by a presentation from the project coordinator, Mr. Alfonso Alfonsi from CNR, Italy.In the morning session, Prof. Rajeev Sanga, from the University of Hyderabad, Mr. Shambu Prasad, from the Centre for World Solidarity-CWS, India; Ms Wairimu Mwangi, from African Technology Policy Studies Network-ATPS and Mr. Daniele Mezzana from Laboratory of Citizenship Sciences-LSC in Rome, Italy, who address SET-DEV main achievements and outputs: the Indian and the African Manifestos.In the afternoon session, the results of the 2 Pilot Programmes in India and Africa are presented and the session is chaired by Prof. Javed, from the Institute of Life Science in Hyderabad.The final discussion is devoted to the future perspectives and follow-up activities as far as both Manifesto and guidelines is concerned and is chaired by Prof. Wiebe Bijker from the University of Maastricht.From India the partners will meet again in Africa and finally in Brussels for next project presentation and dissemination
