SET-DEV project announces a seminar in Africa

Held in Nairobi (Kenya) next 29th of April, the seminar of SET-DEV (Science, ethics and technological responsibility in developing and emerging countries) project is the second of a round of 3 seminars that SET-DEV project partners are organizing under the title RESEARCH, INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT: THE SOCIAL FABRIC OF SCIENCE.The partners organize these events to present the three main project outputs: the Indian Manifesto, the African Manifesto and the Policy Guidelines, whose content is based on the studies carried out in different thematic areas such as health, agricultural, energy and new technology in the 3 countries.Launched in 2008, the SET-DEV project has the main objective of supporting the research systems of India and Africa, interested in developing their own ethical perspectives in the context of scientific and technological research. The SET-DEV project is an initiative funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme, Science in Society area.The final seminars round events kicked-off with a one-day open seminar held at the University of Hyderabad on the 29th of March and had the participation of around 50 participants from different organisations, among which, some of those previously involved in the process, some new ones, PhD students, researchers, and professors, representative of civil society organisations, as well as project partners coming from different countries in Europe and from Africa.This first seminar was an occasion to present the main project outputs and discuss about the future development of the project products and how these are taken up by the interested stakeholders. SET-DEV project aims at creating a world relationship between science and society”, it’s a way to “exercise for greater responsibility towards scientific and technological research”, as the project coordinator Mr. Alfonso Alfonsi explained in the framework of the meeting.The main objectives of the Manifestos and the Policy Guidelines are to strengthen the relationship between science technology and society, to contribute to the democratisation of science and technology and to allow a cross learning between Africa India and Europe.The tour of SET-DEV project outputs ends in Brussels (Belgium) on the 3rd of May under the title “Final Project Seminar in Europe”.
