XIVth International Krutyn Summer School 2013

Optical Lanthanide Materials: New Horizons by Tailored Designs

GENERAL INFORMATION  & GOALThis XIVthInternational Krutyn Summer School –- "Optical Lanthanide Materials: New Horizons by Tailored Designs"- is organized by Philips, The Netherlands, Polish Supramolecular Chemistry Network Foundation, University of Siegen, Germany, and the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland. The School is conceived as a high-level and highly intensive scientific event focusing on cutting-edge know-how on inorganic and organic aspects of advanced luminescent materials based on lanthanide compounds. This Summer School aims at the state-of-the-art training in the form of lectures and consulting sessions designed for Ph.D. students and young researchers seeking to reinforce their knowledge and skills in the field of inorganic and organic aspects of advanced luminescent materials. Top experts in this area will deliver lectures and consulting sessions. The school is intended both for people already active in this R&D field, as well as for those new to the field.  SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMETheoretical background- Excitation and emission mechanisms- Term symbols and group theoretical aspects - Exchange coupled systems- Point defectsAcademic research- Lanthanide emission- Up- and down conversion- Luminescent quantum dots- Photochemistry- Pressure dependent optical propertiesTechnological aspects- LED phosphors- Scintillators- Luminescent materials for solar cells- Ceramic luminescent materials- InstrumentationINVITED LECTURERSProf. C.
