How e-Health, m-Health and telemedicine are changing the delivery of care

EIF Breakfast Debate

Information technologies and mobile enabled devices can empower patients to monitor and manage their conditions, enabling them to pursue active lifestyles, enhancing their quality of life, and freeing healthcare providers and systems to focus on acute care. But the introduction and widespread application of these technologies face a number of challenges, notably of legal and regulatory nature. This breakfast debate will help understand the issues at stake from various perspectives: a regional health care administration perspective on e-Health and m-Health and on how it can help to address financial and other pressures; a patient activist’s perspective who will explain how mobile technologies help manage chronic condition in real life; and the European Commission’s point of view on what the EU can do to enable health IT.PROGRAMME-25/09/2013Welcome and introduction:Milan Cabrnoch, MEP and EIF Political MemberSpeakers:Joan Cornet, Director of the mHealth Competence Center at Mobile World Capital BarcelonaPaul Buchanan, the founder and Chief Executive of Team Blood Glucose (Team BG)Gisele Roesems-Kerremans, Deputy Head of Unit "Health and Well-being", European Commission DG CNECTExchange of views with participants
