Measurement of Physical Activity

The precise assessment of physical activity is crucial in health research and may be assessed by different methods and instruments

This week-long short course offers an opportunity for doctoral students insports/exercise medicine, sport science, epidemiology, public health, clinical medicine and related disciplines to understand and apply different subjective and objective methods of assessment of physical activity in public health and clinical settings.In this course participants will be introduced to the notion of physical activity and inactivity within the fields of health sciences and public health. They will be presented with the implications of various subjective and objective instruments, and will learn how to assess physical activity in patients with specific diseases and how to correlate physical activity with disease severity. They will be supported in developing the foundational skills required to design and conduct physical measurement, and introduced to the resources available for ongoing guidance as they work through each phase of the research process in their future studies.
