Many researchers and SMEs wonder what it takes to write a successful and competitive proposal for Horizon 2020. Often they are told that it is down to knowing the 'real secrets' in successful EU funding and they hope for 'tips and tricks' in proposal writing or for a better understanding of the 'EU language' and what evaluators want to hear. However, experience has shown that the success in EU funding besides a great idea and an excellent consortium depends on a clear and sound project concept, its embedding in the bigger European policy framework and the demonstrated longer-term impact the activities and project results will have on societal challenges and beneficiaries. To achieve this, a strategic and methodical approach is needed which allows for developing a sound project concept and assessing the own performance as opposed to focusing on 'proposal writing' and colourful narratives that will not be able to conceal inconsistancies and weaknesses of a project. The Logical Framework Approach, which has been used by the European Commission for their strategic programming since the early 90s provides such a methodical approach.This practical workshop will provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice necessary to apply the Logical Framework Approach to their individual project development process to thereby maximise their chances in various funding programmes.
