EdpL Workshop: International Data Exports

The regulation of cross-border data transfers in the age of mass surveillance: protection or protectionism?

In light of an increasingly interconnected and intertwined world, many businesses and governments provide their services across national borders. This involves the exchange of data pertaining to global customers or employees, which in turn may pose thorny cross-border issues, due to a fragmented and sometimes conflicting regulatory landscape. In addition the EU and its Member States are seeking adequate responses to the recent terror incidents that stroke France, Belgium and Denmark. Relying e.g. on data retention measures and flight passenger name records (PNR) raises number of questions of mass surveillance and the fundamental right to data protection. It is against this backdrop that the European Data Protection Law Review – EDPL is hosting a 1-day hands-on workshop on the law and policy of cross-border data transfers. Experts from the industry, academia and legal practice will offer their insight and share their views on these topical issues.
