Europe is the largest tourist destination in the world.  As a first-rate economic sector and image for cities, tourism can produce specific types of crime. Cities, in partnership with tourism stakeholders, must ensure that a safe and suitable environment exists for its visitors, while also encouraging coexistence with the residents.As essential factors in choosing a destination, security and the feeling of security are at the heart of a city’s quality of life. Temporary citizens, just like permanent residents, also have rights and needs. What policies and initiatives can be locally implemented in order to respond to these issues ?The Security & Tourism : Local Policies and Practices Conference organised by Efus and in partnership with the City of Paris, is designed to mobilise the cities and their partners from all over Europe. Representatives from cities and European institutions, private sector stakeholders and experts will hold discussions on these questions : hosting large events, managing nightlife and how public spaces are shared, but also creating partnerships, using ad hoc tools and improving the city’s image.The conference will also provide the opportunity to present the conclusions and recommendations developed by the partners of the Security & Tourism project for the very first time.This project has received co-financing from the European CommissionDG Home Affairs -Isec 2011
