The seminar is targeted at civil servants from the EU Member States, the EU institutions and from the partner States of the Union wishing to gain a better understanding of the background, dynamics, positions, possible consequences, risks and opportunities linked to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which is currently negotiated between the EU and the US. The objectives of the seminar are the following: 1. to equip participants with the tools to understand the political, economic and societal background to the TTIP; 2. to better understand the content of the TTIP (regulatory issues, rules, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS), etc.), as well as the associated challenges; 3. to understand the geopolitical challenges of the TTIP and its place in the EU’s Common Commercial Policy and in the global trade system (WTO); 4. to give participants hands-on experience of the mechanisms, procedures and dynamics behind the policy process, and to enable participants to practically apply their knowledge in their own professional context.
