Europe makes significant investments in large scale research infrastructures, making new scientific discoveries with the potential to solve grand societal challenges possible. The investments also offer an opportunity for policymakers and their partners to create innovation systems capable of generating renewed growth and advancing regional smart specialization across the EU. What can be done at the regional, national and EU-levels to maximise this potential?The High Level conference, organised by Region Skåne, takes its starting point in the the on-going establishment of two world class materials research infrastructures, European Spallation Source and MAX IV Laboratory, in Sweden and Denmark. It will be the occasion for policy makers and stakeholders to examine best practice from across Europe and beyond, and discuss what measures could be taken at the regional, national and EU-levels to realise the opportunities that investment in large scale research infrastructures bring about for European growth.High level speakers include European Commission Director General for Research Robert-Jan Smits, Swedish Research Minister Helene Hellmark Knutsson as well as representatives of EU institutions, research facilities, universities and regions.The event is free of charge.
