Lecture start at 12:30pm

Lecture by Eric DautriatExecutive Director, Clean Sky and correspondent of the Air & Space Academy.

Clean Sky is the European Public-Private Partnership for aeronautical research and technology. Industry-led, the programme involves most of the aeronautical players across Europe, from large integrators to the smallest SMEs, with also a strong participation from Research Organisations and Academia. Its objectives are about reducing the CO2 emissions of all categories of aircraft, as well as their noise, and about improving the competitiveness of the European value chain, through a wide network of innovative projects, mostly geared to integrating new technologies into large demonstrators.

Clean Sky 1 was started in 2009, while its continuation, twice bigger, was launched in 2014 within the Horizon 2020 programme. Clean Sky is managed by a “Joint Undertaking”, an autonomous body under EU rules, the governance of which is shared between the European Commission and the industry, More than 600 entities are participating in Clean Sky 1, which will come to an end by the end of this year, while already 300 have been selected through calls for proposals for Clean Sky 2.

The technical achievements, or work still in progress, of Clean Sky 1 concern a variety of areas, from the Open Rotor ground test to more-electric-aircraft equipment tested in flight, to a laminar wing currently being integrated on an A340, to new functionalities in the flight management system. Clean Sky 2 will continue this effort, but also address new areas like electrical propulsion, cabin, maintenance, manufacturing. Clean Sky is addressing a wide range of TRL, from 2 to 6.

The presentation will be about both the technical content of Clean Sky, and the innovation eco-system which is progressively built and consolidated throughout the programme.
