Future Trends: Universal Basic Income

Join us for this event where a panel of notable thinkers in the field of the Universal Basic Income will debate the pros and cons of this complex concept during an interactive panel discussion.

The idea of a Universal Basic Income, granting an unconditional or minimum income to every citizen, has been around for centuries, but is becoming ever more relevant. Is it the way forward for our society? Can it help solve societal problems such as inequality and jobs disappearing through automation? Or is it not the solution we need and a pipe dream that the government can ill afford?

In short, it remains a controversial topic of which the pros and cons will be discussed at a panel discussion during this year's edition of our annual Future Trends Evening. The panel is followed by a Q&A session.

Speakers:

  • Filip Saelens, Local Partner and Head of Employment & Benefits Practice Group at Loyens & Loeff (moderator)
  • Professor Philippe Van Parijs, Political Philosopher and Social Scientist at Catholic University of Louvain and Co-Founder of the Basic Income Earth Network
  • Ivan Van de Cloot, Chief Economist at Itinera Institute
  • Simon Ghiotto, Fellow at  Itinera Institute and co-author of Itinera’s recent report on the Universal Basic Income

This event will be concluded by a networking reception.
