From Politics to Practice – European Sustainability Policy, Chemie³ and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs)

Stakeholder discussion

With the 2030 Agenda the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations were adopted in September 2015. The European Union wants to assume a leading role in implementing the Agenda. In the communication “Next steps for a sustainable European future” of November 2016, the Commission describes its priorities in this field. In June 2017 the European Council spoke for applying sustainable development as an essential guiding principle for all EU policies. Furthermore, in July 2017 the European Parliament called on the Commission to prepare an EU implementation strategy for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Implementing the SDGs is a challenge not only for politicians and the civil society but also for the industry. The chemical-pharmaceutical industry in Germany wants to make a major contribution to a sustainable development in line with the SDGs: with the industry’s innovative and social solutions and by offering an additional stimulus to politics and society. Together with the MEPs Arne Lietz and Martina Werner, Chemie³ – the Sustainability Initiative of the German Chemical Industry – would like to invite you to a discussion event on potential contributions to and the necessary framework for making the SDGs a reality.
