3 May acts as a reminder of the need to respect the freedom of the press freedom - a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom. In support of World Press Freedom Day, the Global Cyber Alliance is looking to expand the deployment of its Cybersecurity Toolkit for Journalists with a debate on "Protecting Free Press in a Connected World," followed by a workshop for journalists on the use of practical tools and resources to manage cyber risk, shore up their cyber defenses, protect their devices and data, and help safeguard their online presence.
The GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Journalists, sponsored by Craig Newmark Philanthropies, supports all journalists but especially those professionals who depend on their own devices or spend a lot of time in the field. Watchdogs, such as those who work with vulnerable sources or manage large amounts of sensitive data, can also benefit from the tools in the toolkit. Topics covered include encryption of data, set-up of automatic backups, secure communications, and more.
About the panel (14:00 - 15:15 pm) - Live Interpretation in French and Spanish!
Faced with the desire of certain actors to control the Web and silence dissident voices, journalists around the world are constantly the target of cyber attacks, whether reporting on crime, politics, or by being a target for the spread of disinformation. Cyberspace has become a privileged place to exercise freedom of press and an essential vector of information. What are the threats facing journalists online, and how can we guarantee their rights and safety in cyberspace?
