Using the DSA to Counter Disinformation and Save Lives

On 2 June 2021, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) will host an online event bringing together policy makers and practitioners for insight and discussion on the role of regulation in fighting disinformation and saving lives.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the serious problem of vaccine-related online disinformation, its potentially deadly outcomes and the solutions available to counter dangerous disinformation and vaccine hesitancy.

Through its research, the CCDH has gathered evidence that algorithms used by major platforms increase vaccine hesitancy which in turn risks lives. The CCDH has offered guidance on how ordinary users can stifle behaviour which spreads disinformation as well as a series of steps that big platforms could take to minimise these ;


Moreover, the DSA as currently drafted is looking at ways of increasing the transparency of algorithms used by the big platforms. We are bringing together a panel of experts to unpack the problem and debate the most effective ways of countering dangerous disinformation through greater
