We have worked in Italy since 1959, financing key infrastructure, such as high-speed trains, renewable energy networks, health, research, education and urban renewal projects. We improved health services during the COVID-19 pandemic for over 3 million patients, supplied 3.7 million households with electricity and made funds available to thousands of small businesses, which are the backbone of the economy. We recently signed a contract with Terna for the east section of its Tyrrhenian link to connect Sicily, Sardinia and mainland Italy via a a 970-kilometre-long underwater cable. The project will contribute to the development of renewable energy sources, power grid reliability and energy security. We have worked in Germany since 1960, financing infrastructure projects, innovation and energy-efficient affordable housing. We financed major infrastructure projects, such as the electrification of the North-South rail link. We also helped clean up the Emscher River, formerly known as the "Sewer of the Ruhr area", which has been completely wastewater-free since 2021. Our financing helped BioNTech to develop its highly effective COVID-19 vaccine at the beginning of the pandemic. We also supported energy-efficient affordable housing and made public transport carbon-free. The Schengen Information System (SIS) is the most widely used and largest information sharing system for security and border management in Europe. As there are no internal borders between Schengen countries in Europe, SIS compensates for border controls and is the most successful cooperation tool for border, immigration, police, customs and judicial authorities in the EU and the Schengen associated countries. Since 1995, the system has helped Europe preserve its security in the absence of internal border checks. In 2013, the second generation of SIS (SIS II) was rolled out, with additional functionalities, such as the possibility of adding fingerprints and photographs to alerts. In 2023, SIS will be renewed with new alerts, upgraded data and enhanced functionalities. #SchengenEU #SIS

Russia’s war on Ukraine profoundly changed the way Europeans view their relationship with Russia, forcing the bulk of the EU policymakers to conclude that Moscow poses a threat to their security. Now, the bloc will have to learn to navigate this new reality. The recent ECFR survey of decision-makers across the EU and Kadri Liik’s Power Audit shed light on the vulnerabilities and the strengths of Europeans’ relationship with Russia. Liik is joined by Pierre Vimont and Ivan Krastev to dive deeper into the views from national capitals and discuss the shifts in European thinking. They will analyze the robustness of European unity and explore what the future holds for the bloc’s Russia Strategy. What poses challenges to European consensus? What guides the EU’s Russia policy? How can the EU maneuver the adversarial relationship with Russia in the longer-term? Guests: Ivan Krastev, Chairman, Centre for Liberal Strategies Kadri Liik, Senior Policy Fellow, Wider Europe Programme, ECFR Pierre Vimont, Ambassador; Senior Fellow, Carnegie Europe Joining as commentators: Adam Balcer, Programme Director, College of Eastern Europe Lívia Franco, Professor, Senior Researcher, Institute for Political Studies, Catholic University of Portugal Zsuzsanna Végh, Research fellow, Comparative Politics Chair, European University Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder) Chaired by: Marie Dumoulin, Director, Wider Europe programme, ECFR

The Struma Motorway is a major road infrastructure project located in the south-west of Bulgaria. The motorway is named after the Struma River and it runs between the capital city of Sofia and Kulata at the Bulgarian-Greek border. The Struma Motorway is being developed as part of the European Union’s initiative to improve the trans-European network for transport. At the same time, the Struma Motorway is part of the Pan-European Corridor IV, also known as the Orient/East-Mediterranean Corridor, which includes major road routes running from Germany to Romania, Greece and Turkey. This new episode of Stories from the Regions shows how by reducing the journey time between Sofia and the Greek border, the Struma motorway will serve as a fast international road connection, which is important for the development of Bulgaria as a whole. https://www.eufunds.bg/en/optti/node/1492 For more information on EU regional policy, please visit our website: https://europa.eu/!Yy67HF Follow us on: - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EUinmyregion - Twitter: https://twitter.com/euinmyregion - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/euinmyregion/

When we say racialised LGBTI communities, we mean LGBTI communities whose life experiences are shaped and limited by racialised profiling, racist structures, policies, treatment and discrimination. In this we include LGBTI people racialised as Black, as well as Indigenous people, people of colour, racialised minorities in Western and Northern Europe, for example, Roma people, and racialised minorities in Central and Eastern Europe, for example Tatars or people from Central Asia living in Russia. If you work with racialised LGBTI communities, and these communities are directly involved in the organising, running and decision-making processes of your organisations, then this call is for you. So, you have been selected and now you are in the programme. What does it mean? It means that you are part of a group of 15 LGBTI organisations who have been selected and you are now together on a journey over the course of 12 months. You will receive a grant of up to 20,000 euro, so you can implement your project. But you won’t be doing it alone. A core component of the programme is that you will be meeting as a group of organisations every six weeks to exchange learning, share challenges, talk about solutions, build solidarity, and find points for collaboration and inspiration. We at ILGA-Europe will be with you on this journey to share some moments and to lend support, if and when it is needed. ILGA-Europe
We want to support projects that strengthen and advance work on socio-economic justice for racialised LGBTI communities. Migration and faith are often a part of the lived experiences of racialised people, so if you work with migrants, refugees, people of colour, or people of faith, this call might be for you. We seek to support projects that work in this respect, in two particular ways: First, though mobilisation and awareness raising, and second, through collaboration and alliance building with other organisations or actors working in the same field. Your project may focus on only one area – for example it can really zoom in on mobilisation, or it can just be about alliance building. Or your project can have both components – mobilisation alongside strengthening of alliances with other organisations working in this area. You can read more about that in the call on our website and you can see some examples in the application form, which we have included as examples to give you some ideas. If you feel like the type of work you’d like to do is not there just yet, but really fits into the work we want to support, please do take the time to apply. We’re looking forward to hearing from you, and are here for any further questions you may have. Have a look at our website now: https://www.ilga-europe.org/news/no-one-left-behind/

ILGA-Europe
What kinds of organisations can apply? If you are an LGBTI organisation that works with and for racialised LGBTI communities, this call is for you. It is really important that racialised LGBTI people are directly involved in the running, organising and decision-making processes in your organisation. Whether you are a registered organisation or non-registered group, whether you are a member organisation of ILGA-Europe or not, whether you are a big organisation or a small, mostly volunteer-run group, you are welcome to apply. Our goal is to work with organisations who are as committed as we are to strengthening work on anti-racism, and in particular socio-economic justice for racialised LGBTI communities. We see a great value for the wider movement in making organisations who do this work supported and visible. And we believe the solutions and approaches that include a few, will pave the way towards the solutions for many. So, if you think your organisation is a fit, or you know of an organisation that might be suitable for this call, please take a look at our website. We’re open to any questions you may have, which you can ask at our website: https://www.ilga-europe.org/news/no-one-left-behind/

Fifty shades of green sustainable finance and the EU taxonomy

Ecologic Institute
How do we classify which investments are the right ones to power the transition to a climate and nature-friendly economy? This is a pretty big question, and one that is crucial to a successful implementation of the European Green Deal. The EU taxonomy – the subject of our latest episode - specifies the various criteria that investments will need to fulfill to be considered sustainable. In practice, the taxonomy is a long list of economic activities with benchmark performance standards. But how do we guarantee that these investments actually achieve what they are set out to do? How do we ensure that we don’t finance activities that support one goal, such as climate change mitigation, but harm our ability to achieve others (e.g., reversing biodiversity loss)? And how is the EU taxonomy implemented in practice? In the latest “Green Deal – Big Deal?” podcast episode, the hosts Ewa Iwaszuk and Aaron Best from Ecologic Institute discuss these questions, together with their interview guests Ben Allen (Research Director at the Institute for European Environmental Policy) and Nicole Kramer (Sustainability Analyst at Greenomy). About our interview guests: Ben Allen has served as a co-rapporteur for the Technical Working Group of the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance, an expert group that was convened by the European Commission to assist in developing the taxonomy. He gives us a look behind the scenes of how the EU taxonomy was designed and explains how the current taxonomy deviates from the expert group’s initial proposal. Looking at the EU taxonomy through a business lens, Nicole Kramer describes the challenges and opportunities businesses face when implementing the EU taxonomy. Did you know that living in space has similar effects on the body to natural aging on Earth? Spaceflight research is helping astronauts live healthier in space, but also everybody on Earth to grow old gracefully. As Europe’s population continues to significantly age, fiscal costs linked to pensions, health care and long-term care are expected to rise over the coming decades. Population's ageing is one of the most significant demographic and social trends of the 21st century, affecting nearly all the countries in the world. Over the years, research conducted in space helped scientists get a better understanding of the biological processes hidden in our bodies playing an important role in the aging of the human body. In particular the muscle and the skeletal systems have been studied in weightlessness offered by the International Space Station over the last 20 years: the results of these findings are promising in providing countermeasures to aging-related diseases. Muscle loss (like that suffered by people forced in bed for long periods) and osteoporosis are just two examples of ailments that are having an increasing impact on human society, as the world's population ages. Research on bone and muscle loss in space helps scientists better understand the modifications in the bone and muscle structures. Each of the topics covered in this short film can have large positive return for patients with muscle and bone pathologies here on Earth, enabling new prevention and treatment procedures to be developed. The step to space research is closer than you might think. Get involved with spaceflight research via https://www.esa.int/spaceflightAO.
