LIHE'11 Europe, Innovations in University Teaching

Contribute to the writing on the international anthology

BEYOND TRANSMISSION: INNOVATIONS IN UNIVERSITY TEACHING5th international symposium, May 29-June 2, 2011.SYMPOSIUM CALL Contribute to the writing on the international anthology “BEYOND TRANSMISSION: INNOVATIONS IN UNIVERSITY TEACHING” to be published by Libri Publishing.Team up with fellow authors for an inspiring and productive symposium on the Greek island Aegina, Sunday May 29 – Thursday June 2, 2011. The symposium is dedicated to collaboratively reviewing, editing and finalising the manuscript for the anthology.ABOUT THE ANTHOLOGY The focus of the anthology we are writing together at the LIHE ‘11 EUROPE symposium on the Greek Island of Aegina is BEYOND TRANSMISSION: INNOVATIONS IN UNIVERSITY TEACHING.The Learning in Higher Education International Academic Association has initiated this anthology because we have long felt that the policies and practices of higher education have drawn too much attention towards academic content and to teaching as a core discipline. With this anthology we wish to present and alternative route as we move from a discipline-based view to a learning-based view on higher education. Therefore the anthology aims to include views from a variety of disciplines and programme formats. We welcome novel and divergent views on innovative university teaching. It is our argument that such views may facilitate our understanding of students’ learning processes and products and find ways that could enable students to self-develop transferable competencies. The anthology will present integrated discussions of three central themes:Innovations in student learning practicesInnovative practices in classroom teachingInnovative use of technology to enhance student learningTheoretical contributions may deal with questions like: What is the theory behind learning? How is curriculum developed to move beyond transmission? How is supervision and the facilitation of learning in higher education conceptualised? Practical contributions may deal with questions like: What constitutes learning in university education? How can we improve the features of curriculum in higher education? In practice, how do we improve students’ learning in university studies?
