Leatherhead’s two and half-day Everything European course aims to provide delegates with comprehensive coverage of the principles and application of current and upcoming EU food law with indications of some national quirks. Leatherhead’s Regulatory experts will explain how to identify, keep up-to-date with and apply relevant legislation as an aid to both new product development and legality of current product ranges.The course will provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss and comment on the long-awaited Article 13.1 health claims list and other challenging regulatory issues, such as the Food Information Regulation and the new Union lists on food additives and flavourings.Day 1 (Module 1: EU Basic Facts, Food Safety, Food Improvement Agents) covers an introduction to the different European institutions and how they work together to decide and create food policies, key areas of EU food law such as the general principles of food law, food safety and hygiene, novel foods, contaminants, pesticides and food improvement agents.Day 2 (Module 2: Food Information to Consumers) will focus on how to ensure the acceptability of a food product label according to current and future European rules on food labelling. The mandatory labelling requirements will be explained thoroughly including product name, ingredient listing, lot and weight marking, allergens and QUID declaration, marketing terms, GM foods and ingredients, organic foods and nutrition labelling. The concept of average consumer will be explained with examples of misleading labelling.Day 3 (Module 3: Nutrition and Health). Nutrition and health claims and the proposed nutrient profiling will be discussed with practical examples. Food fortification, food supplements and update on foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses will be covered.
