Jokkmokk Winter Conference 2014 - Make it happen: Eco-Mobility for the North

Energy Days Jokkmokk

Freight and passenger transports are continuously growing globally, thereby connecting people and regions. A melting Arctic is opening up for new shipping routes. But our transport needs are also contributing to climate change and further environmental and health problems. Transport routes can conflict with traditional reindeer herding and other migrating herds. In the North, long distances and sparse population are specific challenges. However, in many regions and cities, innovative mobility concepts and environmentally-friendly transport options have been realised.Jokkmokk Winter Conference 2014 focuses therefore on the following issues:How to avoid pollution risk and disconnect transport and mobility from its adverse effects? What can politics do in general and specific in the Nordic countries and peripheral regions? What does a concept of “Eco-Mobility” mean for the North? What are concrete next steps for “Eco-Mobility” and what can each person do?
