Everything European - A Comprehensive Guide to European Food Law

Leatherhead's Everything European training course provides you with comprehensive coverage of EU food law. It includes the new EU labelling provisions, nutrition and health claims and updates on food additives and flavourings.

Leatherhead’s two-day Everything European course aims to provide you with comprehensive coverage of the principles and application of current and upcoming EU food law with indications of some national quirks. Leatherhead’s Regulatory experts will explain how you can identify, keep up-to-date with and apply relevant legislation as an aid to both new product development and legality of current product ranges. You will be provided with a unique overview of all relevant EU food law topics with practical exercises and how to keep up-to-date with their latest developments. In addition, you will have the opportunity to discuss and comment on challenging regulatory issues, such as the new EU labelling provisions and the new Union lists on food additives and flavourings, as well as how to comply with EU nutrition and health claims requirements. Day 1 (Module 1: EU institutions and legal procedures, EU law-surrounding Food Safety topics): covers an introduction to the different European institutions and how they work together to decide and create food policies, key areas of EU food law related to food safety such as the general principles of food law, food safety and hygiene, novel foods, genetically modified foods, contaminants, pesticides and food improvement agents (food additives, enzymes, flavourings) with a practical workshop on how to check the acceptability of these agents in foods. Day 2 (Module 2: Food labelling and nutrition and health, member states' national quirks):will focus on how to ensure the acceptability of a food and drink label according to the Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 that introduces considerable changes to nearly all food labels in the EU, including nutrition information, origin labelling, the manner of allergen labelling, and minimum font size. With the compliance date of 13 December 2014, for most provisions, less than 6 months away, businesses will need to allocate sufficient time to develop artwork, ensure that it is suitable for printing with packaging suppliers, and review and approve it for compliance. A summarising talk will illustrate examples of non-harmonised legislation in the EU to give you an appreciation of Member State national quirks.Who should attend? Particularly relevant for those involved in ensuring that food products meet legislative requirements. This two-day course also benefits those seeking a summary or update of current food laws by providing a comprehensive coverage of the principles and application of EU Food Law.
