Dr Solomon Atnafu

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Solomon Atnafu is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Addis Ababa University. Dr. Solomon got his PhD degree from “Laboratoired’InfoRmatique en Image et Systèmes d’information“, INSA de Lyon, France in July 2003; his MSc in Computer Science from Technical University of Dresden, Germany in 1989; and his BSc degree in Mathematics from Department of Mathematics, Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia in 1983.

He has offered several courses both at the graduate program level and at the undergraduate level of the Department of Computer Science. Among the courses that he taught are:

  • “Advanced topics in Information Systems (Comp 626)”,
  • “Multimedia Systems (Comp 727)”,
  • “Seminar in Computer Science (Comp 705)”, and
  • “Database Management system (Comp 361)”.

He has advised more than forty five graduate students in their MSc thesis research work and their MSc project works on different subjects. He has served as Head of the Department of Computer Science during the period February 2006 to August 2009. At the IT Doctoral Program, he is co-advising three PhD students and currently, he is the Associate Director of the Center for IT Research and Innovation at the IT Doctoral Program of AAU.
