Michael Kreft von Byern was born in 1962 in Flensburg. He joined Europa-Park in Rust in 1988 as Public Relations Officer and then became Director Public Relations, Director Marketing, Director Operations, Head of Mack Solutions and the Creative + Development Team of Europa-Park. Today he is the Representative of the Board of Europa-Park.

In 2001, he became Member of the Tourism Committee of the German Chamber of Commerce and since 2009 he is the Chairman. He is also member of the Supervisory Board of Black Forest Tourism and Chairman of the Economy Advisory Committee.

Since May 2010, he is a member of the Research Advisory Committee German Institute for Tourism, Munich (DWIF) as well as a Member of the European Board of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions). He is also Chairman of the European Advisory Subcommittee for Government Relations in Brussels. Since January 2013, he is a member of the Marketing Committee of Tourism Baden-Württemberg, while since 2014 he is a board member of the German Association of leisure parks.
