Working together to improve mobility That is the principle governing the work of the present six members from Germany, Austria, Slovakia and the Republic of Srpska cooperating in the European Automobile Club Association (EAC). We represent the interests of European road users both at the national policy level and, through our office in Brussels, to EU institutions. EAC is calling for: the realistic alignment of the core road traffic regulations increased transparency through Europe-wide traffic sector regulations improved road safety sustainable mobility solutions. The EAC is signatory of the European Road Safety Charter. For a Well-Balanced Transport Policy Depending on the situation or distance to be travelled, different means of transport meet different mobility needs so car drivers may also take a plane or train, or go by bike. And that's why the EAC advocates a well-balanced transport policy taking all modes of transport into account. The overall aim is to ensure transport consumer needs are at the forefront of transport policy decisions. Founded in 2008 in Brussels, EAC today represents the interests of a total of 3 million people. As a partner for mobility, our vision is a Europe without borders where travel is easy. That requires harmonising traffic laws between the EU Member States and driving forward innovative technologies – to ensure greater safety and sustainability on the roads.

The safety and security of European economies, societies and citizens rely on space-based applications such as communication, navigation and observation. However, due to the growing complexity of the orbital environment, space-based assets are increasingly at risk from collision with other operational spacecraft or debris. At the same time, objects may re-enter and cause damage on the ground. To mitigate these risks, we need to be able to survey and track such objects, and to provide this information to a variety of stakeholders. The Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Support Framework was established by the European Union in 2014 with the Decision 541/2014/EU of the European Parliament and the Council (SST Decision). This Decision foresaw the creation of an SST Consortium currently composed of seven EU Member States – France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain. An SST system is a network of ground-based and space-based sensors capable of surveying and tracking space objects, together with processing capabilities aiming to provide data, information and services on space objects that orbit around the Earth. Since 2016, the SST Consortium and the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen) have worked together to develop a European SST capability, and formed the SST Cooperation. The Consortium’s Member States have networked their assets to provide, through the SST Service Provision Portal operated by SatCen, a set of SST services to all EU countries, EU institutions, spacecraft owners and operators, and civil protection authorities. The SST services assess the risk of in-orbit collisions and uncontrolled re-entry of space debris into the Earth’s atmosphere, and detect and characterise in-orbit fragmentations. The SST Consortium EU Member States are represented through their national designated entities: France (CNES), Germany (German Space Agency at DLR), Italy (ASI), Poland (POLSA), Portugal (PT MoD), Romania (ROSA) and Spain (CDTI).

All astronauts go through a quarantine period before flying to space. This period of isolation keeps them away from any germs or viruses that might make them sick. Quarantine is also important to minimise the risk of bringing an infectious disease with them to space. Marcus Wandt entered quarantine two weeks ahead of his launch in Florida, USA, just a few kilometres away from the rocket that took him to the ISS as part of Axiom Mission 3. Quarantine for astronauts does not mean a holiday – it is a busy period. Marcus spent around twelve hours a day preparing for the mission ahead. His schedule included physical exercise, refreshers of flight operations, the review of science and outreach activities, and even virtual reality simulations of the job awaiting him on the Space Station. 📹 ESA - European Space Agency 📸 Axiom Space #ESA #ISS #Astronaut

European Space Agenc...
The upcoming Copernicus Radar Observation System for Europe in L-band (ROSE-L) will provide continuous day-and-night all-weather monitoring of Earth’s land, oceans and ice, and offer frequent images at a high spatial resolution. ROSE-L will carry an active phased array synthetic aperture radar instrument. The radar antenna will be the largest planar antenna ever built measuring an impressive 40 sq m – roughly the size of 10 ping-pong tables. ROSE-L will deliver essential information on forests and land cover, leading to improved monitoring of the terrestrial carbon cycle and carbon accounting. The mission will also greatly extend our ability to monitor minute surface displacements and helping detect geohazards. It will automatically map surface soil moisture conditions and monitor sea and land ice – greatly helping climate change research and mitigation. ROSE-L is one of six Copernicus Sentinel Expansion missions that ESA is developing on behalf of the EU. The missions will expand the current capabilities of the Copernicus Space Component – the world’s biggest supplier of Earth observation data. Europe's Rail Joint ...
In this video, we explain the vision, scope, and goals of FP5-TRANS4M-R, a research and development project for rail freight transport funded by the European Union. About FP5-TRANS4M-R: FP5-TRANS4M-R’s overall goal is to establish rail freight as the backbone of a low-emission, resilient European logistics chain which fulfills end-user requirements to full satisfaction. Two technological clusters, ‘Full Digital Freight Train Operation (FDFTO)’ and ‘Seamless Freight Operation’, will develop, validate, and demonstrate FP5-TRANS4M-R technologies, in line with an integrated cross-sector systemic approach. Integrating Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC)-enabled solutions with software-defined systems and digital rail services will ensure increased capacity, higher throughput, and swifter transportation. It will strengthen the cross-border coordination and cooperation between rail infrastructure managers and deliver optimised rail network management. FP5-TRANS4M-R's seamless, integrated, interoperable, validated, and EU-wide authorised solutions aim to achieve a single EU rail freight technology framework with strictly managed interfaces for effective system integration and seamless operation across borders, actors and modes. These objectives represent the foundations, framework and motivation behind the project which will have a significant impact on the EU transport and logistics sector. FP5-TRANS4M-R brings together 75 partners from across the rail sector including end-users, industrial partners, railway undertakings, operators, wagon keepers, SMEs and academia. The project will deliver on the rail freight sector’s commitment to increasing the modal split share to 50% by 2030, revoking the causality between economic growth in Europe and pollution and having a positive impact on European citizens’ quality of life. https://projects.rail-research.europa.eu/eurail-fp5/

Copernicus provides global Earth Observation data with high resolution and long-term mission continuity, ideally suited for Forest Monitoring Systems at all scales. Earth Observation helps in remotely detecting forest degradation and/or deforestation. Unlocking the full potential of this application could greatly help in monitoring deforestation, both in Europe and around the world. Deforestation/degradation products and services would help in adhering to the rules set out Deforestation-Free Products Regulation (EUDR), the EU Forest Strategy for 2030 and the EU Green Deal. EC may coordinate efforts for the standardisation of EO-based solutions in support of implementing the regulation. More info: https://www.copernicus.eu/en/events/events/copernicus-forestry
