Working together to improve mobility That is the principle governing the work of the present six members from Germany, Austria, Slovakia and the Republic of Srpska cooperating in the European Automobile Club Association (EAC). We represent the interests of European road users both at the national policy level and, through our office in Brussels, to EU institutions. EAC is calling for: the realistic alignment of the core road traffic regulations increased transparency through Europe-wide traffic sector regulations improved road safety sustainable mobility solutions. The EAC is signatory of the European Road Safety Charter. For a Well-Balanced Transport Policy Depending on the situation or distance to be travelled, different means of transport meet different mobility needs so car drivers may also take a plane or train, or go by bike. And that's why the EAC advocates a well-balanced transport policy taking all modes of transport into account. The overall aim is to ensure transport consumer needs are at the forefront of transport policy decisions. Founded in 2008 in Brussels, EAC today represents the interests of a total of 3 million people. As a partner for mobility, our vision is a Europe without borders where travel is easy. That requires harmonising traffic laws between the EU Member States and driving forward innovative technologies – to ensure greater safety and sustainability on the roads.

The safety and security of European economies, societies and citizens rely on space-based applications such as communication, navigation and observation. However, due to the growing complexity of the orbital environment, space-based assets are increasingly at risk from collision with other operational spacecraft or debris. At the same time, objects may re-enter and cause damage on the ground. To mitigate these risks, we need to be able to survey and track such objects, and to provide this information to a variety of stakeholders. The Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Support Framework was established by the European Union in 2014 with the Decision 541/2014/EU of the European Parliament and the Council (SST Decision). This Decision foresaw the creation of an SST Consortium currently composed of seven EU Member States – France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain. An SST system is a network of ground-based and space-based sensors capable of surveying and tracking space objects, together with processing capabilities aiming to provide data, information and services on space objects that orbit around the Earth. Since 2016, the SST Consortium and the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen) have worked together to develop a European SST capability, and formed the SST Cooperation. The Consortium’s Member States have networked their assets to provide, through the SST Service Provision Portal operated by SatCen, a set of SST services to all EU countries, EU institutions, spacecraft owners and operators, and civil protection authorities. The SST services assess the risk of in-orbit collisions and uncontrolled re-entry of space debris into the Earth’s atmosphere, and detect and characterise in-orbit fragmentations. The SST Consortium EU Member States are represented through their national designated entities: France (CNES), Germany (German Space Agency at DLR), Italy (ASI), Poland (POLSA), Portugal (PT MoD), Romania (ROSA) and Spain (CDTI).

Proba-3 is ESA’s – and the world’s – first precision formation flying mission. A pair of satellites will fly together relative to the Sun so that one casts a precisely-controlled shadow onto the other, to create a prolonged solar eclipse in orbit. In the process the mission will open up the Sun’s faint surrounding coronal atmosphere for sustained study. Normally this corona is rendered invisible by the brilliant face of the Sun, like a firefly next to a bonfire. Due for launch together this autumn, the two Proba-3 satellites will fly 144-m apart for up to six hours at a time to create these eclipses. Beside its scientific interest, this experiment will be a perfect method to demonstrate the precise positioning of the two platforms. It will be enabled using a novel combination of guidance technologies. In this video the Proba-3 team details the mission concept. The summer solstice, which is when the Sun reaches the most northerly point in the sky, occurred on Friday 21st June at 22:50 CEST. This is when the Northern Hemisphere will experience the longest day of the year and the Southern Hemisphere will experience the shortest. This is because of Earth’s position in orbit around the Sun and the way the North Pole is tilted towards the Sun during the solstice. This animation shows one image per day captured by the Meteosat Second Generation from 20 June 2023 until 19 June 2024 captured at approximately 17:30 CEST. MUSIC project: How much noise do #drones generate?

EUROCONTROL
Our first drone noise measurement 🎤 campaign at #EIH our Innovation Hub aims to model sound exposure from #UAS operations at ground level. It's part of the Measurement of UAS Sound Impact (MUSIC) project. The future #ATM air traffic management ecosystem will have to incorporate new entrants like #UAS Unmanned Aerial Systems & #eVTOL Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing vehicles. In addition to safe and seamless operational integration, it is essential to tackle 'drone noise' in order to reduce nuisance for the population exposed to overflights and facilitate societal acceptance. 👉 To tackle this, EUROCONTROL's Aviation Sustainability and CNS teams have initiated a UAS noise measurement campaign to gather noise data for various UAS vehicles flying in a range of operating modes and under various atmospheric conditions. We'll then combine this with trajectory data provided by platforms such as #ACUTE, our drone traffic monitoring system, to model overall sound exposure on the ground. After a successful proof-of-concept phase, trials will continue in 2024. 👉 As a long-term objective, we envisage integrating this modelling capability into #IMPACT, EUROCONTROL's unique aviation noise and emissions modelling platform.

Europe’s new rocket Ariane 6 will take off from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, near the equator, and far from populated areas. Why did Europe choose a spaceport on the other side of the world? The main reason is the lack of space. There are hardly any places in Europe where rockets can be launched and fly over unpopulated areas during its initial launch phase. We also need a large area to build the launch pad and operations. Europe’s Spaceport is also very close to the equator. As our Earth spins itself, you can get an extra boost if you launch where Earth is widest… at the equator. 📹 ESA - European Space Agency 📸 ESA - European Space Agency #ESA #Ariane6 #Rocket
