The webinar was dedicated to the launch of the report on Women's Rights Perspective on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights that can be downloaded at: https://www.migrantwomennetwork.org/2024/05/16/womens-rights-perspective-on-the-eu-charter-of-fundamental-rights/ As the first legally binding fundamental rights primary legislation of the European Union, the EU Charter is a crucial legal instrument for human rights in the EU, postulating that “equality between women and men must be ensured in all areas’’ (Article 23) and that the Charter has the same legal value as the Treaties (Article 6 of the TEU). Nevertheless, as emphasised by the Council of Europe report on “Protecting the rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls”17, migrant women still face heightened risks and persistent barriers that inhibit their full enjoyment of rights: “despite the existence of women centred norms and policies, reports from international and civil society organisations have highlighted systemic weaknesses in the responses to the risks faced by women migrating to and within Europe, notably in the last years”. This report aims to provide a comprehensive overview, through the lenses of equality between women and men, women’s rights, and the fundamental rights enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, particularly as they pertain to the experiences of migrant women. We will provide an overarching view of the Charter’s history and its current interpretation in relation to some of the rights enshrined in the Charter, which are of paramount importance for the effective protection of migrant women. This analysis will demonstrate how the Charter can be used by legal practitioners, as a tool for advancing equality between women and men, non-discrimination and access to justice, as well as ways in which it should be improved/ interpreted/ amended/ used to provide an approach sensitive to the specific needs of migrant women, as well as women as a group. This report is produced as part to the FULFIL Project, co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by the European Network of Migrant Women in partnership with OLYMPE Association and ARTEMIS Law firm in France, PAROLIN Law firm and IROKO Association in Italy, Association against Femicide (ACF) in Portugal, and European Women Lawyers Association (EWLA).

SESAR
Communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) infrastructure is the foundation for the provision of air navigation services. To make CNS more resilient and efficient, the Digital European Sky will see a move away from CNS as physical assets towards a service-based approach. Mindful of this needed change, the project will develop digital platforms and services leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to enable future data-sharing service delivery models. It aims at sharing CNS data between air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and other aviation stakeholders (e.g. civil and military airspace users, airports, national authorities, etc). The project will carry out tests using data from several ANSPs for the use by third-party application/service developers. https://sesarju.eu/projects/CNS-DSP #SESAR #innovation #EU #research More information: http://www.sesarju.eu Find us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/SESAR_JU Find us on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/company/sesar-joint-undertaking Subscribe to our channel to follow more innovations in the ATM world!

🛳️ Now that’s a space ship. 🚀 Have you ever wondered how we transport rockets? All the elements that make up Ariane 6 are manufactured in mainland Europe and then transported by this ship, named Canopée. It is the first custom-built transporter to use sails, reducing emissions and saving on fuel by up to 30%, and on this trip, it travels for 10 days covering over 7000 km to reach Europe’s Spaceport in French Giuana. The hybrid-propulsion vessel is 121 m long and has 37 m tall sails. Canopée rotates continuously between stop-offs to load each Ariane 6 stage and other parts and ship them across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe’s spaceport. 📹 ESA/Arianegroup #ESA #Ariane6 #Rocket

The sixth webinar of the EUA series Toward Tirana 2024, the Bologna Process and developments in the EHEA discussed the current state of the social dimension in higher education, contrasting institutional perspectives with European policies. The Social Dimension has been extensively explored under the recent cycles of the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG) thanks to the work of the Social Dimension Working Group. With the 2020 Rome Communiqué, EHEA ministers adopted the Principles and Guidelines to Strengthen the Social Dimension of Higher Education in the EHEA, and expressed their commitment to implementing these in their respective systems. This webinar took a step back from the BFUG discussions and delved into the experiences and historical context of the social dimension at two higher education institutions and one European Universities alliance. Speakers highlighted the rationale and motivations of various inclusive practices implemented at their institutions, and discussed how they are rooted in institutional strategies. Finally, the event reflected on the relevance and applicability of the current initiatives on the social dimension coming from the BFUG. For example, AI is enabling malicious, small-scale attackers to do greater harm. In addition, trends in digitalisation, such as the expanding Internet of Things (IoT), create more opportunities for cybercrime, and the growth of ransomware is disrupting business activity across the EBRD regions and beyond. Meanwhile, the cybersecurity sector has been leveraging AI for decades. The latest advances also enhance the ability to thwart cyber-attacks. Title: Linguistic Linked Data: open challenges and a roadmap Speakers: Jorge Gracia, University of Zaragoza In this talk, Jorge Gracia del Rio reviews the current status of the LLD field and analyses some of the current challenges (related to sustainability issues, entry barriers to the technology, etc.). He then proposes a roadmap to address such challenges in order to attain an ecosystem of truly interoperable linguistic data on the Web, multilingual in nature, across different linguistic levels. Its potential role as a complementary technique to current large language models (LLM) is also briefly discussed. Such a roadmap is one of the outcomes of NexusLinguarum, the 'European network for Web-centred linguistic data science' COST Action. Linked data (LD) is seen as a key technology to realise the vision of a truly multilingual digital single market in Europe. Such a technology is in a mature state now and has been increasingly adopted by industry and public institutions worldwide (e.g., national libraries, museums, media companies, and public administrations, among others). In this context, linguistic linked data (LLD) appeared as an emergent trend within the LD field to share and interlink linguistically relevant data sources. The benefits of sharing linguistic data on the Web in a semantically interoperable manner has been recognized by the language technologies community, which has shown increasing interest in publishing linguistic data and metadata as LLD on the Web. However, using such technologies comes at a price (in terms of learning curve, need of technical support, etc.) that has prevented their adoption and use on a larger scale. Is the EU economy on the path to recovery? Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for Economy, explores the current state of the European Union's economic landscape. The EU economy has held steady in the face of exceptional challenges over the past years and we can now look forward to a return to modest growth rates, picking up further in 2025. Labour markets continue to hold up well with high employment rates, and private consumption is up. However, the global landscape remains fraught with risks for the EU, with rising and persistent geopolitical tensions. Global Convening for the Restitution of African Cultural Heritage

Open Society Foundations
In recent years, the long struggle for the restitution of African heritage, which started during colonization, entered a new phase: In 2017, there was a resurgence of the movement which urged lawmakers, private collectors, and museums to expedite objects illicitly taken from the African continent during the colonial-period. At a time when there is global pressure to repatriate African heritage, it's critical that there is a global alliance of stakeholders that through advocacy and negotiation can see returns through. Against this backdrop, Open Society hosted the Global Convening for the Restitution for African Cultural Heritage, a three-day summit in Accra, Ghana in August 2024. The summit focused on interrogating key questions to continue to advance and build a resilient and sustainable restitution movement. The convening featured opening and closing plenary sessions, interactive thematic sessions, performances, and networking opportunities for key stakeholders including, representatives from the African Union, ECOWAS, NGOs, UN agencies, artists, academia, creative communities, civil society, and the African diaspora.

The fiscal theory of the price level states that inflation results from more government debt than people believe will be repaid. In his remarks to the IIEA, Dr Cochrane explains the idea, and uses it to understand the surge of inflation in 2021-2022, why that inflation went away without restrictive monetary policy and a recession, the strange quiet of the zero bound era, and the rise and fall during the 1970s and 1980s. Dr Cochrane also discusses his new book, The Fiscal Theory of Price Level. About the Speaker: John H. Cochrane is the Rose-Marie and Jack Anderson Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. His publications include the book The Fiscal Theory of the Price Level and Asset Pricing. In his address to the IIEA, Professor Treisman discusses his recent book Spin Dictators: The Changing Face of Tyranny in the 21st Century. He discusses how a new type of authoritarian regime has emerged which is better adapted to ruling sophisticated, globally-connected societies. These authoritarian regimes rely less on violent repression and instead rely more heavily on the manipulation of information. Professor Treisman discusses how strongman leaders use spin and information manipulation to cement their rule – and also explains why they sometimes revert to harsher methods. About the Speaker: Daniel Treisman is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, Acting Director of the UCLA Center for European and Russian Studies, and Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a former editor of The American Political Science Review and he has been a consultant for the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and USAID. His latest book, co-authored with Sergei Guriev, is Spin Dictators: The Changing Face of Tyranny in the 21st Century. The book was listed as one of the “Best Books of 2022” (The New Yorker, Foreign Affairs), “Best Political Books of 2022” (Financial Times), and “Books That Made Us Think in 2022” (The Atlantic, Moment).
